Joana Balsemão is Councilor of Cascais, responsible for environmental qualification, climate change, sustainable development goals, citizenship and participation. She is also advisor at the Luso-American Development Foundation. She completed her master’s degree in Environmental Change and Management at Oxford University.
As a responsible for negotiating legislative proposals related to environmental, climate and energy policy, Joana Balsemão was a technical advisor at the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the European Union.
Joana Balsemão also worked as an advisor in the Ministry of the Environment, with the responsibility of international dossiers, coordinated the Agenda 21 program at the Cascais City Council, was a researcher at Instituto Superior Técnico in the area of climate change education, and worked as an energy technician at the Vale of White in the United Kingdom, where she was responsible for the awareness program and the implementation of the energy poverty strategy.
