Miguel Henrique Otero
Miguel Henrique Otero is a journalist and CEO of El Nacional. Since 2015, he runs the newspaper in exile from Madrid, as Venezuela’s government is allegedly persecuting him, having filled several lawsuits against the journalist and publicly threatened to arrest him in case he returns to the country.
Otero is currently a member of the board of the Inter American Press Association and belongs to the board of directors of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers. He is the former president of the Group of Diaries of America and, from 1983 to 1998, he was an independent member of the National Congress of Venezuela.
Miguel Henrique Otero holds a Mathematics degree from the Central University of Venezuela. After completing a postgraduate degree in Business Administration, at the same university, he moved to the United Kingdom where he studied Economics at Churchill College, Cambridge University.
He received the Taburiente prize awarded by the Diario de Avisos de Tenerife (2018), the award Luca de Tena from the ABC newspaper, delivered by Felipe VI (2015), and was distinguished by the newspaper El Mundo, in their 9th edition of Premios Internacionales de Periodismo de El Mundo (2010).
