Vítor Carvalho Araújo
Vítor Carvalho Araújo was born and works in Lisbon. He obtained his degree at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon and his doctorate in Architecture at Instituto Superior Técnico.
In 1982 he founded the office Vítor Carvalho Araújo, Architects, where he develops urban designs and works, collective and single-family housing, public health and education facilities, new works and rehabilitation. He was awarded the AIP Prize for Architectural Rehabilitation, with the ‘Monchique’ housing project in the historical center of Oporto, and the SIL – Excellence Award, with the Nova SBE campus project in Carcavelos.
He is the author of Arquitetura e Tecnologia Digital: (trans)Formações Evolucionárias (2003) and Edifícios de Arquivo: futuros para o passado (2018).
Alongside architecture and teaching, as a professor of Architecture Project at the Instituto Superior Técnico and at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Lisbon, he has participated in several professional bodies, including as President of the National Admissions Council and member of the Nacional Directory Council of the Portuguese Order of Architects. He also integrated the Advisory Board of the Portuguese Agency for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Higher Education.
He is a member of the European Commission’s Experts Group on Diplomas in Architecture and has participated in the ‘Continuous Professional Development’, ‘Professional Qualifications’, ‘Professional Practice Experience’ and ‘Building Information Modeling’ working groups of the Architects’ Council of Europe.
